Grafintec Oy, a subsidiary of Beowulf Mining, is at the forefront of fostering a sustainable, Finnish graphite-based supply chain specially designed to support the burgeoning battery industry. Situated in the GigaVaasa area of Korsholm municipality— a nexus for energy storage and battery technology innovation—Grafintec is developing a facility dedicated to the processing of graphite into coated spherical graphite. This key material enhances battery performance and cost-efficiency, positioning it as a critical component for anode manufacturing. Aligned with the EU's Critical Raw Materials Act, Grafintec is not only set to process imported graphite initially but aims to incorporate graphite mined from its own projects, Aitolampi and Räpysjärvi, thereby reinforcing the EU’s vision of self-sufficiency in graphite production. Through technological advancements in spheronization and thermal cleaning, Grafintec aspires to turn natural and recycled graphite into premium battery-grade anode materials, contributing significantly to the development of a vital, multi-billion Euro industry in Europe that currently does not exist.
